What is an Affirmative sentence?

Ans: An affirmative sentence is a kind of sentence that expresses positive thought, ideas and attitudes. An affirmative sentence is simply a positive sentence. An affirmative sentence can be an assertive sentence, an interrogative sentence, an exclamatory sentence, an optative sentence and an imperative sentence.

Examples of Affirmative sentences are-

1. He is playing football.

2. Are you doing your right now?

3. What a beautiful building!

4. Take this medicine regularly.

5. May God bless you.

All the above examples are affirmative sentence because they’re expressing positive thoughts. Though the types the sentence are different, but they are all positive sentence.

What is negative sentence?

Ans: A negative sentence is a kind of sentence that expresses negative thought, ideas or values. A sentence is made negative by the words like not, no, never, nothing or nobody. A negative sentence can be an assertive sentence, an interrogative sentence, an exclamatory sentence, an optative sentence and an imperative sentence.

Examples of negative sentences are-

1. I don’t know where he has gone.

2. Why are not you doing your homework?

3. Oh, he’s no more!

4. Don’t go in the sun.

5. May God don't give him so much punishment.

All the above examples are negative sentences as their expression negative thoughts or ideas.

To transform a sentence from negative to positive or from positive to negative the following chart is very important.

Positive:  Only he can play cricket.

Negative: None but can play cricket.

Negative: Nothing but books are available.

Positive:  Only stones are available.

Negative: Nothing but stones are available.

Positive:  He’s only four.

Negative: He’s not more than four.

Positive:  They have only two cars.

Negative: They have not more than two cars.

Negative: Nobody can deny that Tendulkar is a great cricketer.

Positive:  Everybody must admit that Tendulkar there is a great cricketer.

Positive:  You must obey your parents.

Negative: You can not, but obviously.

Positive:  You must care them.

Negative: You cannot but care them.

Positive:  Everyone hates a terrorist.

Negative: There is no one but hates a terrorist.

Positive:  Everybody fears and lion.

Negative: There is nobody but three years alone.

Positive:  Every rose has a thorn.

Negative: There is no rose without a thorn.

Positive:  As soon as he saw the tiger, he ran away.

Negative: No sooner did he see the tiger than he ran away.

Positive:  He’s less ugly than you said.

Negative: He’s not as ugly as you said.

Positive:  He’s too weak to walk.

Negative: He’s so weak that he cannot walk.
