Edufair 2011

By Pravin

Today morning, I was struck by the vibrancy and vitality of a room when I first walked through the doors of an Edufair, 2011, organized by The Assam Tribune Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati. Hundreds of students were thrilled talking with friends, family and admission representatives, looking for the perfect study destination for themselves.

I was able to collect information and consider options in some top colleges and universities of India who had participated in the Edufair. While researching, I wrote up a brief list of questions to ask. By asking differing colleges/universities similar questions, I was able to get a far better understanding of each’s advantages/benefits. Some general questions of mine were answered by the provided brochures and pamphlets

In addition, there was also events in the fair such as seminars or information sessions. It ran throughout the day, with each one focusing on a different study topic, such as the research process, applications, visas, financial aid, and so on. These seminars were a great place to ask queries about the admission process.

I left the fair after getting all details with a sense of satisfaction and came home and finally I have decided which university is the best to take admission.

My Visit to a Hostel

By Priya

Last Sunday, I went to see my friend Priyanka, who is staying in a hostel in Guwahati.  I was very happy to reach her place. Her room is in the 3rd floor from where the view of the Brahmaputra River is very clear. I along with them sat on the terrace to view the beautiful river. The room was very spacious. It has a proper bathroom. It has an open space outside the house where the girls of the hostel could spend time by playing some outdoor games like badminton, cricket, basketball etc.

I spent the night in her room with her. The hostel has 50 rooms with two beds in each. There is also a large library containing large number of books. It contains one large room for indoor activities such as carrom, ludo and chess. It also features a dining hall with a capacity of 120 people. Then we had dinner in the mess of that hostel. Just inside the gate, there is also an auditorium hall. The hall is periodically utilized for cultural events.

The hostel provided meal three times a day. The food supplied in the hostel is very excellent. First time I had this much tasty food in a hostel. I was overjoyed to have spent time in such a setting. The hostel according to me is a very congenial place and I loved the environment in and around it.

Dangerous, Ban of Plastic Bags being Ignored

RANJITA, PRESS REPORTER

Guwahati, Feb 16: The government banned the environment unfriendly polybags in our state. But unfortunately, these are now being widely used again and being discarded everywhere. While the government works out ways to lessen the impact of plastic bags, but the ban on plastic bags in our state is being widely ignored.

Despite the ban being implemented over a year ago, plastic bags can still be found being used and distributed at various stores and markets. These are a great threat to the environment. They cause pollution, kill wildlife and are responsible for using up the natural resources of the earth. They are one of the main factors that litter the landscape. The main problem of plastic bags is that they are not biodegradable. The decomposition of plastic takes around a thousand years.

So, with the plastic rubbish produced each day it is likely that this problem will never be solved.  It is crucial that the ban on plastic bags is strictly enforced in order to protect the environment and ensure the sustainable development of our state.
